That study says that women who were under-treated with vitamin C were more likely to suffer from premature aging and a decrease in collagen. While the cosmetics company may want to limit the distribution of its products to male customers, it does not say it would market a product containing vitamin c in a way that would increase its profitability. It could do that by adding a small amount of the antioxidant to its products designed to treat acne, heart disease, hypertension and certain cancers.
According to a study funded by the American Heart Association, dietary supplements for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis have been shown to provide significant protection against fractures. It found that women who took supplements were less likely to suffer from fractures in their main calcium source, which were in their bones. However, the study did not look at how well the supplements prevented fractures from occurring. It did say, however, that women who took a multivitamin and mineral supplement containing vitamin c were less likely to suffer from fractures of any kind. It is unclear whether that was due to the vitamin c or to other antioxidants.
