Think you know everything there is to know about the Paleo Diet? Think again! The Paleo Diet is one of the most controversial eating plans ever devised and just because it is easy to understand doesn’t mean you will be successful on this diet. Like any diet plan you must have the right mindset in order to succeed or else you will fail.
Eat like a caveman and lose pounds. The Paleo Diet claims you can be leaner now and less prone to getting cancer, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and many other life threatening diseases by eating like male humans in the Paleolithic era. Also known as the Caveman Diet or the Stone Age Diet, it is basically a high protein, high fiber diet that claims you can lose weight without cutting calories by eating more like cavemen. Sounds great, doesn’t it?
While on the paleo diet you are not allowed to eat any processed or “synthetic” sweeteners such as stevia, artificial sweeteners, maple syrup, and even fruit sugars. On this list you will also be restricted from using corn syrup for your sweetener needs. In fact, all sweeteners are prohibited on the paleo diet. Although it can be difficult to read at first, making the transition to this type of diet will be easy and very beneficial.
Eat all natural meats. All meats except fish and shellfish are permitted on the paleo diet. All meat should be organic and grass-fed. Grass-fed meats are much healthier than those which are artificially fed and processed.
Eat plenty of seafood and wild fish. Seafood is very rich in good fats, protein, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, omega fatty acids, enzymes, and B vitamins. Wild fish and lake trout are considered to be the healthiest choice of fish for a long-lasting healthy life. However, the catch in eating wild fish is that these are some of the most fatty fish available. This fatty acid content raises blood cholesterol levels and increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
Eat lots of eggs! Eggs are another food group that are prohibited on the paleo diet. Eating too many eggs may increase the risk of developing diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. While it is difficult to completely eliminate eggs from your diet, having a very limited number of eggs (one egg per day) will greatly help your body in reducing its cholesterol levels.
Do not completely avoid the consumption of dairy products. For example, there is paleo meat which is slightly different from regular dairy products. In fact, paleo meat contains all the necessary amino acids that you need, including casein, lecithin, pusillus, and others. These nutrients found in male meat help to build strong bones and teeth. Furthermore, studies show that male meat contains higher amounts of vitamin D compared to milk and dairy products.
Bananas are an extremely delicious fruit but you should limit your intake of bananas during the first two weeks of your diet because bananas are a great source of glucose, which can raise your blood sugar level. Keep in mind that paleo diet does not prohibit the consumption of any kind of sweet foods such as chocolate, rice cakes or cookies. You can have them occasionally but limit your daily intake of them.
Next on the paleo diet list is sugar. You should limit your consumption of all processed sugars because they are not part of the natural metabolic process of human beings. This means that processed sugar may be beneficial to some people but it is harmful to male dieters because it decreases your energy and causes several problems. The best choices to replace refined sugar are naturally occurring ones such as honey, maple syrup or agave nectar.
Finally, one thing you should consider in your paleo diet is fats. You should consume an adequate amount of healthy fat in order to reduce your weight. The good news is that you may eat all the fats you want as long as they are natural fats. Nevertheless, the fats that you should avoid are saturated fats and trans fats. Also, you may eat some fish oils in order to promote weight loss since fish is considered as one of the paleo diet’s best food sources.
All in all, you will be able to get maximum weight loss from your new meal plan if you avoid unhealthy food groups. However, the key to doing so is to avoid processed foods and sugar. Instead, you need to eat more natural foods such as meat, vegetables, fruits and nuts. By eating this type of food, you will be able to get all the nutrients you need without having to worry about your blood pressure, insulin sensitivity and cholesterol levels. And the best part is you can do all these by adhering to a simple and easy Paleo meal plan.
